Lopers 13 Shots Behind Eighth Place & a Trip to the Bracket
Kearney, Neb – The 56th-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's golf team is sitting in 12th place (609) after the first two days of the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships in Eureka, Mo. The 18-team field, along with eight individuals, began a 54-hole tournament at Fox Run G.C. (par 72/6,087 yards) on Tuesday. The top eight teams after the third-round advance to a match play bracket. UNK shot a 303 on Tuesday to be tied for 11th. They had one of the first tee times on Wednesday and finished up with a 306. Third-ranked Nova Southeastern (Fla.), who also had an early tee time, fired a 302 on Tuesday after a tourney-leading 284 in round one. Second-ranked Dallas Baptist (4-over 580) is in the lead with defending national champion Findlay of Ohio three strokes back and NSU six shots off the lead. UNK, meanwhile, is ahead of five Top 41 teams including Central Region rival Augustana and home standing Missouri-St. Louis. Ninth-ranked Cal State San Marcos is in eighth place with a 596. Colombian sophomore Juliana Botero Molina shot a 1-over 73 on Wednesday that featured three birdies and four straight pars on the back nine. She is tied for 32nd overall (6-over 150) to be the low Loper so far. Third-ranked Olivia Gronborg (7-under 137) of NSU remains in the lead. Showing great balance, three Lopers are tied for 50th place (9-over 153). They are Arizona senior Paige Lucero (74-79), Kansas junior Allison Comer (77-76) and Kansas sophomore Brooke King (75-78). King had two birdies on both the front and back nine today, Lucero had two birdies with Comer recording 13 pars. Finally, Puerto Rico senior Faviola Gonzalez is tied for 91st (162; 78-84). The Lopers are scheduled to tee of Thursday at 10:10 a.m.
