Kearney Hub reducing printed editions

The Kearney Hub will now no longer be a daily newspaper starting in mid-July.

The newspaper announced in their Saturday June 20 edition that the Hub will adjust their print schedule to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The announcement cited increased costs in the newsprint industry, the labor market, and shifts in advertising revenue. The newspaper will also be delivered via US Postal Service once printing is reduced, eliminating newspaper carriers.

Changes go in effect starting with the July 18 edition.

Lee Enterprises, which owns the Hub and other Nebraska newspapers, has cut news print operations at their newspapers across the nation. Lee owned Newspapers in Montana, Nevada, Virginia, and New York also recently announced plans to reduce their print schedule and send the newspaper via postal service.

Lee Enterprises owns newspapers in over 70 communities across the country, and 12 newspapers in Nebraska. Prominent newspapers Lee owns in the state include the Omaha World-Herald, the Lincoln Journal-Star, the Grand Island Independent and the Scottsbluff Star-Herald.
