UNK Athletics: Tennis & Volleyball in Florida for Spring Break

Lopers Enjoy Warm Weather, Top Competition

Kearney, Neb. – Two Nebraska Kearney teams are in Florida for Spring Break this week facing top competition.

The 22nd-ranked tennis team was scheduled to face Rollins College in Winter Park on Monday but that dual has been rained out. UNK (8-7) heads over to West Palm Beach on Wednesday to tangle with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish and then is at No. 19 Florida Southern in Lakeland on Friday. The Moccasins will be the Lopers seventh Top 30 opponent to date.

The volleyball team, coming off a 23rd straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 28-6 record, starts its spring exhibition season at Eckerd College Tuesday in St. Petersburg. The match begins at 5:30 p.m. Central with the Tritons coming off a 24-7 season and NCAA at-large bid.

Early Wednesday morning (7:30 a.m. Central), the Lopers are at Tampa who is the only D2 school with a longer NCAA tourney streak (26 years). The Spartans went 29-4 in 2022 and was ninth in the final AVCA Top 25 poll. UNK was 15th in those rankings.

The Lopers spring season continues April 6th with a match against RMAC power Regis in Ogallala (8:30 p.m. Central).
