Gaynor’s Gem Leads UNK Over Drury; Two More Sunday
Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Faith Gaynor tossed a four-hit shut out to help Nebraska Kearney down Drury, 2-0, Saturday evening in Springfield, Mo. This was day one of the weather-delayed Drury Invitational. The Lopers (8-12) fell to Augustana in five innings, 17-5, in game one. UNK faces Cottey (Mo.) College and nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma on Sunday. Gaynor (Riverbank, Calif.) needed only 76 pitches to record her first collegiate shut out. Just UNK's second complete game of the year, she fanned three, walked two and allowed only four singles. UNK tallied its runs in its first and last at-bat. Taking advantage of some Panther miscues, the Lopers were led by leadoff hitter Sydney Thomason (2 for 3, one run & one RBI). In the early game, Augie (3-4) hit three dingers as part of a 14-hit attack. Catcher Gracey Brink (4 for 4, four runs & six RBI's) had herself a day as did DP/left fielder Torri Chute (3 for 4, two runs & five RBI's). In the circle, Lexi Lander struck out three and gave up just on earned run over four innings of work. The Lopers got two RBI's from both left fielder Abbie Jo Gaube and sophomore DP Jaiden Harteker.
