UNK Softball: Gosker & Thomason Again Chosen All-MIAA

Loper Vets Led UNK at the Plate & in the Circle

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Katie Gosker and sophomore Sydney Thomason represent Nebraska Kearney on the 2023 All-MIAA team. The league's 14 head coaches vote on the makeup of the squad and cannot vote for their own players. Gosker (Blair) and Thomason (Ripon, Calif.) both were tabbed honorable mention, Gosker at catcher and Thomason at Utility/Pitcher. This is the second All-MIAA honor for each. Gosker finished her fourth and final year as a Loper by batting .290 with nine doubles and team-highs in home runs (nine) and RBI's (34). She also fielded at a .990 clip, threw out 10 on the base paths and tied for the team lead in walks (22). Finally, Gosker's career dinger tally of 32 ranks fourth in school-history. Thomason was mainly at shortstop and pitcher for UNK but also played games at first and third base, centerfield and designated player. She started all 50 games and was the team's top hitter, leading in average (.358), slugging percentage (.610), on-base percentage (.418), total bases (97), doubles (14), runs scored 34) and sac flys (four). She also had eight HR's and 25 RBI's. In the circle, Thomason led the Lopers in ERA (3.24) and complete games (four) and was tied for the lead in wins (seven) and games started (13). Finally, she had nearly a three-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio. UNK finished up the 2023 season with a 16-34 (7-19 MIAA) mark that included 12 home games (three home weeks) and nearly 8,000 miles on the road.
