UNK Softball: Lopers Beat the Hawks, Fall to the Cougars

Three More Games on Tap

Kearney, Neb. – Senior catcher Katie Gosker went 2 for 3 with three RBI's and Nebraska Kearney scored five in the top of the fourth to down Rockhurst, 6-4, Friday morning in Topeka, Kan. The Lopers (6-9) dropped its second game, 15-4 (5 innings), to Sioux Falls. This was the first day of the Washburn Invite; UNK faces Missouri-St. Louis (3-3) on Saturday before two more games on Sunday. Gosker (Blair) had an RBI single in the first to give the Blue & Gold the lead for good. The big fourth inning featured a two-run Gosker single as well as three other Lopers singles and three walks. Rockhurst (3-3) tallied three runs in its half of the sixth but California freshman Faith Gaynor picked up her fourth win thanks to getting out of a bases loaded jam in the inning. Starting the game but then briefly stepping out in the sixth, she reentered with the Merry-Go-Round full of Hawks. She managed to get a harmless ground ball to first to end the rally. Gaynor worked around seven walks thanks to a season-best nine K's. Also for the Lopers, Wahoo freshman center fielder Mary Chvatal went 1 for 3 with a run scored from the nine-hole. Sioux Falls (1-4) scored five in the bottom of the first to never trail and then added two in the second, three more in the third and five in the fourth. The Cougars had three home runs and a double among 11 hits while also taking advantage of seven walks. Gosker and Lincoln junior right fielder Carly Dembowski had RBI's for the Lopers with Chvatal going 2 for 2 with a run.
