UNK Softball: Lopers Drop Two in Kansas; Home Next Weekend

UNK Bats Quiet Again

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Savanah Egger threw a complete game two-hitter and freshman Carly Stuke drove in four runs in the nightcap to help Fort Hays State take a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 2-0 and 10-2 (6 innings), Saturday afternoon in Kansas. The Tigers (21-10, 4-2) have now won eight straight games and pushes its record against the Lopers (12-18, 3-3) to 42-38 since March 1999. Egger improved to 10-4 by fanning five and working around three walks, single and double. She threw 94 pitches and coaxed UNK into 11 flyouts. Sophomore Regan Curry had an RBI infield single in the second with freshman leadoff hitter Peyton Shephard adding a run scoring triple in the fifth to provide the offense. California sophomore Sydney Thomason (6-3) threw well for the Lopers, allowing two earned over six full innings. She threw 70 pitches, fanned 11 and saw FHSU hit into 11 groundouts. At the plate, she batted leadoff and had a double. Sophomore Bailey Carlson (7-3) went the distance in game two for the Tigers, fanning five and walking just one. She threw 90 pitches and worked around seven hits as UNK stranded six on the base paths. During its win streak, Hays has allowed a total of nine runs. The Tigers tallied one in the first, three in the third and two over each of the last three innings. Stuke, a left fielder and designated player, had a two-run shot in the fifth, a double in the third and a game-ending RBI walk in the sixth. Also for the Tigers, junior center fielder Sarah Tiffany went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI's from the two-hole. Kearney super senior third baseman Avery Wood and Lincoln sophomore first baseman Leah Jurgens each went 2 for 3 for the Lopers with DP Lyndsey Roth going 1 for 1 with a run and walk. UNK returns home next weekend to face Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern.
