UNK Swimming: Aqualopers Get to Swim Outside in Cali

UNK Third in Concordia Invite

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's and diving team returned to the pool after a long break this past weekend with the OC Invitational in California. The Aqualopers got some training in before taking part in a seven-team meet – held outside – and hosted by Division II member Concordia University-Irvine. UNK tallied 1,002.50 points to just trail CUI (1,116) and D2 member Azusa Pacific, Calif. (1,071.50). The meet also included six men's teams. Colorado true freshman Caralea Holmberg led the way by winning the 200 backstroke (2:12.65) and finishing runner up in the 100 butterfly (1:00.81). Her time in the 200 moves her up two spots to second in UNK history; Olivia Forrest managed a 2:11.60 in February 2020. Holmberg then vaulted up five spots to fifth on the 100 fly top 10 list. Finally, she swam the third leg for the fourth place 200 medley relay team (1:46.05). Next, UNK was placed three through sixth in the 1,000-free to rack up the team points. The leaders here were Texas true freshman Margaret Wells (12:06.28) and Oklahoma true freshman Miriam Finch (12:20.21). In the 200-breaststrsoke, the Aqualopers had three in the top nine with Colorado sophomore Karley Bennett (2:44.61) leading the way. Finally, Columbus junior Emily Miksch was fourth in the 100-breaststroke (1:11.69) with Colorado true freshman Joy Graziano third in the 100 free (55.85) and being the anchor on both relay teams. UNK is now off until the RMAC Championships Feb. 7-11 in Grand Junction, Colo.
