Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's swimming team set two new school-records at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships Friday in Grand Junction, Colo. The Aqualopers once again remain in fifth place with 188 points, just ahead of Texas-Permian Basin (179). Defending champ and meet host Colorado Mesa (967) has a healthy lead in an eight-team race. In the 200-butterfly, Colorado sophomore Karley Bennett turned in an altitude-adjusted 2:16.70 in prelims to rank ninth overall. That moved her into second place on the UNK all-time charts. She then managed a 10th place finish in the finals thanks to an adjusted 2:16.37. That break a 31-year old record of 2:16.45, set by Jennifer Apel in November 1991. That was the oldest record on file for the Aqualopers. To finish another long day, the 200-free relay team finished sixth to tally 26 team points. The group of Colorado freshmen Joy Graziano and Caralea Holmberg, Norfolk freshman Maggie Waddington and Columbus junior Emily Miksch managed a 1:38.46. That bests the school-standard of 1:39.03, set at the 2022 RMAC's. UNK scored eight more points here thanks to the "B" team placing 13th (1:41.79). Next, Holmberg moved up two spots to second all-time in the 500 free (5:19.99) with Kansas freshman Gabby Grace (1:00.41) almost tying her school-mark in the 100 back (1:00.31). She was 18th overall with Holmberg coming in 19th. Finally, Miksch moved into second place on the 100-breaststroke top 10 list (1:07.29). She was 13th overall and just behind the 1:06.30 effort UNK legend Yohara Salinas managed in March 1992. The meet resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
