Lopers Look to Upset #32 Griffs
Kearney, Neb. – The 43rd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women’s tennis team is the sixth seed in the 2023 MIAA Tournament.
The three-day, six-team event is being held this year in Edmond, Okla., at the Edmond Center Court. The single-elimination tourney runs from April 21-23 (Fri.-Sun.).
UNK (14-10) faces third-seed and 32nd-ranked Missouri Western (12-5) Friday at 4 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinals against second-seed and 26th-ranked Washburn (14-6). That dual begins at 10 a.m.
Also ranked sixth in the NCAA Central Region, the Lopers lost 6-1 at MWSU on April 8. However, three of the Griffons singles wins came in three sets. Back in mid-March, WU slipped past UNK by a 4-3 score.
The championship match is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. with Northwest Missouri (No. 1), Northeastern State (No. 4) and Central Oklahoma (No. 5) on that side of the bracket. The MIAA Tourney winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships; regional play is set for May 6-9.
