UNK Tennis: Lopers Now Ranked 22nd Nationally

UNK Hosts No. 21 Washburn & No. 28 Northwest this Weekend

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women’s tennis team is ranked 22nd in the latest edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National team and individual rankings.

These are the first team rankings since February 17 and the first individual (singles & doubles) rankings since November.

UNK (8-5) dropped three matches in the ITA National Indoor Team Championships Feb. 24-25 but played well in those setbacks. That helped the Lopers move into the nation’s Top 50; they also own a win over No. 20 Midwestern (Texas) State. UNK’s setbacks are to the current No. 1, 5, 12 and 16th-ranked teams and the 2nd-ranked team in junior college.

The Lopers start MIAA play this weekend with a Thursday dual (11 a.m.) vs. No. 28 Northwest Missouri. That’ll be followed by a Friday dual (11 a.m.) against No. 21 Washburn; the ‘Bods feature D2’s second-ranked singles player in Sofia Smagina.
