UNK Tennis (Sat.): Lopers Fall to Nationally-Ranked Griffs; Host Midland Monday

Lopers Add Warriors to Schedule

Kearney, Neb. – The 37th-ranked Missouri Western State Griffons won three singles matches in three sets to down 40th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph. The Griffs improve to 12-4 (4-2) while the Lopers fall to 12-10 (3-4). In the first edition of the NCAA Region Rankings (April 5), Mo West was fifth in the Central with UNK sixth. Junior Melisa Becerra (Colombia) and sophomore Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) rolled at number one doubles, 6-0, but the Griffs allowed five combined points in the other two matches to go up 1-0 on the scoreboards. Ranaivo dominated her number three singles match (6-4, 6-2) but Mo West won in three sets at one (10-8), two (10-4) and four (6-1). Lucia Casas Blas won at four to clinch the dual for the Griffs; the one and two singles matches played just a 10-point game in third. UNK has added a home indoor dual on Monday vs. Midland. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
