UNK Track: Seven Lopers Qualify for All-Region Honors; NCAA's this Weekend

Lopers Rank Among Central’s Best

Kearney, Neb. – Seven members of the Nebraska Kearney men’s track and field team have earned 2023 All-Central Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top-five individuals in each event from each of Division II’s eight regions earn All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the top-three relay teams.

First, the DMR team of Payton Davis (David City), Wes Ferguson (Fremont), Luke Stuckey (McCool Junction) and Micah Swedberg (Wallace) ranked third in the Central thanks to a 9:44.48. Next, Ferguson is tops in the 800 (1:48.25) with Stuckey having the fourth best time in the mile (4:04.95). Also on the track, Ainsworth redshirt junior Ben Arens made the list in both the 3,000 (4th/8:16.45) and 5,000 (5th/14:28.07). Finally, representing UNK in the field is Giltner redshirt junior weight thrower Alex Goracke (3rd/64-1) and Kearney senior high jumper Brayden Sorsenen (T-4th/7-0.25).

The DMR team, Ferguson, Stuckey, Goracke and Sorensen all compete at this weekend’s NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach.
