Lopers Continue to Lead Division II in Scoring Defense; #26/30 Griffons Up Saturday
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women’s basketball team moved up three spots to 13th in the latest edition of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 poll.
This is UNK’s highest WBCA ranking since being ninth in the Jan. 4, 2002, edition of the poll. The Lopers are also 19th in this week’s Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) rankings.
The Lopers (18-3) have won five in a row heading into weekend home games vs. Northwest Missouri (Thursday night) and No. 30 Missouri Western (Saturday afternoon). MWSU handed UNK a 68-65 setback in early December.
Also in the WBCA rankings from the Central Region is Central Missouri (7th), Minnesota Duluth (10th), and Minnesota State (17th) with Missouri Southern receiving votes.
Not surprisingly, UNK still leads D2 in scoring defense (50.0 points per game) while ranking in the national Top 25 in five other categories; assist-to-turnover ratio (10th), three-point pct. defense (17th), rebounding margin (19th), blocks (24th) and field goal pct. defense (24th). The Lopers have held 10 foes under 56 points since that December setback at Mo West.
