UNK Plays Again in March 2023
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team finished up its fall schedule by placing third at the annual Midwest Classic Tuesday in Maryville, Mo. Due to cold temperatures and frost issues, about 1.25 rounds was played Monday with the 17 teams then finishing up on Tuesday. The tourney, hosted by Northwest Missouri State, was held at the par 72 Mozingo Lake G.C. The average 18-hole score for the field was an 87.7 with UNK managing rounds of 326 and 330 to trail only Augustana (634) and Central Missouri (648). In the most recent Golfstat National Rankings, Augie is 30th, UCM 15th and the Lopers 42nd. Kansas junior Allison Comer tied Augie senior Molly Stevens for co-medalist honors. They each shot a 9-over 153 with Comer moving up three spots on Tuesday. She had rounds of 79 and 74 and totaled three birdies and 22 pars. Over 13 fall rounds, Comer posted UNK's lowest stroke average (76.69). Next, Colombian sophomore Juliana Botero Molina tied for fourth (157; 76-81) with Puerto Rico senior Faviola Gonzalez the third Loper to come in, finishing 27th (168; 86-82). They both ended the fall with 1,002 strokes (77.08 avg.), just five more than Comer. Botero Molina had four birdies in round one and led the field on par 4 holes (+1) with Gonzalez carding 13 pars overall.
Next, Kansas freshman Beth Grant tied for 36th (171; 86-85) playing as an individual with Arizona senior Paige Lucero tied for 61st (178; 85-93). Finally, Kansas sophomore Brooke King tied for 70th (183; 88-95). UNK will tee it up again in March 2023.
