UNK Wrestling: Lopers Host Annual Midwest Duals at the Fairgrounds

UNK Adds J.V. Duals on Saturday

Kearney, Neb. – The second-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team hosts the annual Midwest Duals this weekend at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. High School teams compete on Friday with colleges and youth clubs hitting the mats on Saturday. Fan not in attendance can watch via FLO Wrestling. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 11-18; children 10 & under are free. Fans are encouraged to buy tickets on-line as cash will NOT be taken at the door. UNK faces Northern State (9 a.m.), Western Colorado (10:30 a.m.) and Adams State (12 p.m.) on Saturday. Junior varsity duals vs. NSU and ASU have been added to the schedule and will take place at the same time as the varsity. The Lopers are 6-3 (1-0 MIAA) to date with new national rankings slated for release on Jan. 20th. Colorado redshirt freshman Daniel DeRosier (141 lbs.) and Iowa redshirt freshman Jackson Kinsella (197 lbs.) are both 19-7 on the year, top-ranked heavyweight Lee Herrington (Kearney) is 16-2 with three other nationally-ranked individuals – Nick James (141 lbs.), Austin Eldredge (174 lbs.) and Billy Higgins (184 lbs.) – a combined 41-10. Finally, true freshman Joey Airola (133 lbs.) has a team-high 20 victories. Next Friday in Des Moines UNK will square off against defending NAIA National Champion Grand View. The Vikings handed the Lopers a 19-18 setback last January in the Health & Sports Center.
