Lopers Have Saturday Tests at the Fairgrounds

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney wrestling team is now ranked third in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II rankings.

This is a tournament powering ranking index where teams get points based on where individuals are ranked in their respective weight class. A number one ranking is worth 20 points, second is 16 points, third is 13 points etc. Thus, the Lopers tallied 63 points with MIAA rival Central Oklahoma (77) and Lander of South Carolina (66) just ahead. UNK was second in the last rankings.

Remaining number one is heavyweight Lee Herrington (Kearney H.S.) and 184-poudner Billy Higgins (Omaha Skutt). Herrington is 16-2 and the current MIAA Wrestler of the Week with Higgins at 15-3. Next, 141-pounder Nick James (Kearney H.S.) fell from second to fifth with 174-pounder Austin Eldredge (McPherson, Kan.) dropping from second to third. James is 12-4 to date with Eldredge 14-3 and among the D2 leaders in tech falls.

UNK faces No. 8 Adams State, No. 20 Northern State and No. 23 Western Colorado tomorrow in the Midwest Duals at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
